Jeff Pierce of Mustad holds the 27/0 nor-tempered high carbon hook the OCEARCH Team is using to catch and tag Cape Cod Great White Sharks. Jeff Pierce came out to the OCEARCH today to deliver a few new hooks to the crew.
When the hooks Expedition Leader Chris Fischer originally used all started breaking is when he decided to put in a call to Mustad. Mustad was thrilled to have the opportunity to produce the hooks for OCEARCH. These Mustad hooks are unique because their design employs a technology that does little harm to the animals.They’re also made to handle 4,400 pounds of force. With fisheries in a delicate state, OCEARCH and Mustad have teamed up to make sure that the ocean’s giants are here for future generations. Jeff Pierce of Mustad comments, “Its all about the fish. Getting the shark on the lift and making sure that shark swim off strong.” With the help of Mustad’s conservation hook technology, the research is being done and the fish are being protected.
